Sitting Down with Adore Tea

Adore Tea is an award-winning, family owned business based in Canberra, Australia. This company uniquely also owns a tea house which offering high tea, with a mouth-watering menu that heroes teas in all aspects. We’ve worked with Adore Tea since day one of Tea Tasters, and we are in awe of their work ethic and their amazing award-winning teas. Today, we talk to Aman, owner of Adore Tea, fresh from their recent 11 wins at the 2019 Golden Leaf Awards, and taking the title of “Best Teahouse (NSW & ACT)”.

What got you into working for a tea business, and inspired you to purchase one?

My wife, Naz and I moved to Australia with our daughters in 2016 and I had started working for Adore Tea as we had invested into the business when we settled here. Neither of us knew much about tea before we started, let alone had thought about purchasing a tea business! But it was a collective decision we took as a family to try something different and here we are!

Adore Tea has over 200 teas, covering 11 different tea categories. Our customers simply love your range of teas, and keep coming back for more. What are some of your favourite teas or tea blends?

It is quite difficult to pick a favourite when there are so many to choose from but our latest tea, Canberra Breeze, is definitely my current favourite. The flavours of rose, caramel and berries together are simply delightful! Apart from these I do also enjoy our colour changing fruit tea Tea Trick and the Violet in the Sun grape flavoured white tea which has a beautiful purple hue. I am also very pleased to say that these two teas have won Golden Leaf Awards this year!

Your teahouse and high tea rotating menus are unique as they are centered around teas. With so many teas available, where do you get inspiration to create your menus?

Naz is always experimenting with different flavours and teas at the teahouse. Since the high teas are seasonal, she tries incorporating seasonal products into her menus and matches them with teas that would compliment their flavours well. Rich savoury items are generally paired with black or green teas whereas more delicate teas like white teas or sweet teas like fruit infusions or rooibos teas go well with desserts.

What can our customers expect to see from Adore Tea in 2020?

Adore Tea has many projects coming up in 2020. However, our biggest priority right now is transforming our brand into a more environmentally friendly brand. As we try to eliminate plastic from our products, we’re starting off by introducing new paper-based canister packaging. This is also an initiative to change the look of the brand so that it looks as well as feels more premium. We will also be introducing loose leaf tea bags to our range.

Do you think the tea industry in Australia will change over the next few years?

Yes, most definitely. More people are starting to recognise tea as their preferred beverage and the health benefits of tea are encouraging many people to make the switch. There’s also been an increase in tea brands across Australia which is only spreading more awareness in a coffee dominant environment. So, I believe the road ahead for the tea industry in Australia is looking very positive!
